    The landmark Cape Kaliakra (The Good Cape) is located just few kilometers to the east, as is the tony beachfront resort of Rusalka. The picturesque Kavarna coast is 42 km long. The Rusalka vacation complex is located 20 km eastward from Kavarna in the unique reserve called Tauk Liman (Bird's Bay). The region around Rusalka and the surrounding plateau are the only preserved wild steppe on the continent. The extremely picturesque rocky coast, the little sand stripes, the venerable oaks, and the plants attract millions of birds and turn the bird bay into an oasis of the untouched nature. Multiple archaeological monuments, the oldest of which are 8,000 years old turn the seaside around Rusalka into a unique archaeological reserve. Three 18-hole golf courses with villa communities and marinas are being developed nearby

    The antique and medieval fortresses, the rocky tombs, the caves, and the oblation stones attract archaeologists from all over the world. 2 km southwards from the village of Kamen Bryag you can find the Yayla National Archaeological Reserve. It is a seaside ledge, separated from the Dobrudzhansko Plateau by 50-90-metre cliff massifs.

    The four towers and the tower gate and other monuments, which date back to different ages, can be found. 101 caves (single ones or in groups) have been documented in the area of the reservation. Some of the excavated tools date back to 5th century BC. In the northern side of the Big Yayla you can find a small fortress from the Early Byzantine period, built at the end of 5th century.

    178 kinds of birds attract tourists from all parts of the world, especially to Kaliakra, Yaylata, and particularly to Durankulak’s ezero (lake) and Tukliman (Birds’ Bay), which are becoming one of the most preferred places in Bulgaria for the ornithological tourism. These places are extremely rich during the migration period when more than 150 types of ducks stop to rest and eat. The cliff massifs host owls, buzzards, reptiles; those threatened by extinction and are included in the Red Book of Bulgaria.
